Your Intranet ≠ A Digital Workplace

Just like blockchain or crypto in fin-tech, in B2B software almost every consultancy and marketing department is calling their work a digital transformation, forcibly jamming it down our throats.

I’m frankly have to hold back my breakfast every-time I hear it. Please can someone explain to me how your digital workplace is more than just a glorified intranet?

Unless you were sending fax before, your Intranet is hardly digitally transforming anyone. In fact, due to this word conflation management and employees alike are growing more fatigued of all the lacklustre innovations they are sold as revolutionary. Of course improving your intranet can contribute to a great employee experience, but that’s not enough to undergo real digital transformation.

In considering a digital workplace strategy, it’s critical to consider the cultural shifts that need to take place for such a project to derive any real benefit. I think that this element of transformation is even more important than the technology itself. Because of this, it’s even more important to define the distinction between an “intranet+” and a true shift towards a digital mindset. Sorry, but using SharePoint and Microsoft Teams together isn’t going to solve your deep-rooted productivity and engagement issues.
